Thousands of former Prime Minister Imran Khan's supporters are heading towards Islamabad, calling for his release from prison. It's once again become another moment in Pakistani history where the country is on the verge of a breaking point. This movement isn't only trying to get a politician out of prison. It's about how the government came to power and whether it deserves to be there. How civilians are being governed by the military. And how much influence the military has on Pakistan's fate.

PTI started its movement in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where former PM Imran Khan still has many supporters. Followers are marching with their red and green flags to the capital city of Islamabad. They are challenging the current government led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to see whether it will allow peaceful protests. Roads have been blocked off to Islamabad to prevent anyone from traveling to the capital.

We've seen this happen time and time again in Pakistan. Whenever a movement builds up against the current government, It's always said that they will disrupt peace and create chaos in Pakistan. Meanwhile, protesters believe they are simply exercising rights and freedoms that have been taken away from them. This situation is concerning because, after Imran Khan was jailed, he has become the voice of many who want change.

Khan was removed from office in April 2022 by a vote of no confidence. A series of events unfolded between his supporters and those who control the country. Imran Khan said local and global actors forced him out of office. The Pakistan Military and the US denied this claim. After his arrest in 2023, several cases were filed against him and are still being tried today. The government says the cases need to play out, but his supporters believe they are trying to remove the biggest opposition in Pakistan.

After the general election in February 2022, many fraud allegations emerged. These include allegations that PTI candidates were not allowed to run for certain seats and disputes over some constituency results. This has left many questioning whether we really get to choose who leads our country. When we can't agree on these issues, it spills over into the streets.

Imran Khan's family has stated that his health is deteriorating and that he hasn't been allowed to see family members or receive proper medical tests. This should be investigated. We shouldn't brush it off because he's in jail. No matter what charges he is being tried for, he should be treated like a human being and given proper medical care.

After Imran Khan compared himself to Egyptian leader Mohammed Morsi, who passed away while in prison back in 2019. There have been fears that if something happens to him while in jail. His supporters will feel as though his life was taken from him and cause even more turmoil in Pakistan.

Another key player in all of this is the military. Ever since Pakistan became an independent country in 1947. The military has played a major role in the nation's affairs. Whether that be ruling as generals or manipulating governments to stay in power. With the military having so much control over our country, it's hard for any political party to establish stability in our democracy.

Imran Khan gained popularity after being perceived as having military backing. Once he started fighting higher ranks in the military, everything changed. Many political figures in Pakistan have suffered as a result. This has led to instability and stunted growth in the country.

Pakistan cannot go through another situation like this. Our country is already struggling with debt. High prices, no electricity, and relying on the world to bail us out. Militancy has risen on our borders with Afghanistan, and we are fighting on multiple fronts around the world. If our political situation remains unstable, we won't be able to fix any of these problems.

The Sharif government needs to keep the country safe and prevent violence. There have been violent clashes with PTI supporters in the past. Including attacks on military facilities and loss of life. But preventing people from peacefully protesting is not the answer.

Allowing political dialogue and ensuring that Imran Khan lives out his days free, or at least safely in jail, is the first step to fixing this issue. We cannot keep our biggest opposition in jail forever and expect things to work out. Too many people voted for Imran Khan to be represented.

It doesn't matter whether Imran Khan becomes PM again. What matters is that we can live in a democratic country. Where politicians can run for office, and we can pick who we want to lead us. Without the fear of something happening to them and our military staying out of politics.
