New Delhi: After an Indian was killed in a Hezbollah rocket attack, the Indian embassy in Tel Aviv has urged citizens to evacuate from border regions in both northern and southern Israel and move to safer locations.

On Monday, an Indian national lost their life, and two others sustained injuries when a Hezbollah missile launched from Lebanon struck an orchard near Margaliot, a northern border community in Israel.

PTI reporter quoted a spokesperson of the rescue services of Magen David Adom (MDA) as stating that the rocket struck a plantation in Margaliot, a moshav (collective agricultural community), located in the Galilee region in northern Israel, around 11 am on Monday.

The deceased was identified as 30-year-old Patnibin Maxwell from Kollam in Kerala. The two injured, both from Kerala, are being treated in hospitals.

On Tuesday afternoon, the Indian embassy in Israel issued a “special advisory” calling for Indian citizens to leave the border areas.

“In view of the prevailing security situation and local safety advisories, all Indian nationals in Israel, especially those working in or visiting border areas in the north and south, are advised to relocate to safe areas within Israel. The Embassy remains in touch with the Israeli authorities to ensure the safety of all our nationals,” wrote the Indian embassy.

Since October 8, Hezbollah has intensified rocket launch attacks on Israel’s northern communities and military installations, purportedly in solidarity with Gaza.

The Israeli embassy in India expressed shock at the death of an Indian national and injury of two others “due to a cowardly terror attack launched by Shia Terror organization”.

“Our countries, who are sadly well versed in civilian loss, stand united in hopes of a speedy recovery for the injured and solace for the family of the bereaved,” tweeted the Israeli embassy.

There are around 18,000 Indians working and living in India, mostly in the healthcare sector. At the start of the current Gaza, India had organised evacuation flights for Indian citizens, but most of them preferred to stay back.
