The Gaza Gambit :Trump’s Strategy to Rewrite Middle Eastern History

Within just three weeks in office, American President Donald Trump has gone to great lengths to impose his final solution for the Palestine conflict. It is no secret that President Trump and Israeli PM Netanyahu go hand in hand when it comes to the expansionist agenda of the state of Israel. However, many commentators are surprised at Trump’s plan for Gaza because it extends even the Zionist agenda of the current state of Israel.

Under Trump’s plan, the Palestinian population of Gaza which is around 2-2.5 million would be displaced, resettled and relocated from the Gaza Strip to the Arab countries of Jordan and Egypt. As per the fallacy of Trump’s core belief Gaza Strip has become an inhabited place so the displacement of Palestinians must be done to restructure and re-organize of land to make it again livable place; however, after such giant reconstruction and real estate projects, Palestinians population of Gaza would not be allowed to return. In simple words, President Trump is using the playbook of Nekba (1948) in which a major chunk of the Palestinian population was displacement from their native land and forced to take refugees in neighbouring Arab countries, mainly in Jordan, Egypt, Lebanon and Syria. Since then, they were never allowed to return to their native homeland.

Therefore, the playbook of Zionists and President Trump has similar methods, patterns and tactics for the extermination of the native Palestinian population. First, to occupy the native land of the Palestinian population mainly through the usage of force. Second, the displacement of the Palestinian population from their native society and homeland on the pretext of the divine claim of Israel based on 2000 disputed history which has transgressed international law, the UNO Charter and civic law of any civilized population. Finally, allow the resettlement of the Israeli population in the occupied land of Palestine to fulfil the dream of building the state of Israel from river to sea. Therefore, from the Balfour declaration (1917) to the 7th October attacks of 2023, tactics remained to deny self-determination and a sovereign homeland for the Palestinian population.

Additionally, under the so-called Trump plan for Gaza, the two-state solution which both Israel and the USA have agreed to implement would be virtually dead. During 16 months of the Israel-Hamas war, many Israeli political and military leaders stated publicly that Israel would absorb the Gaza Strip and West Bank to end the debate of a two-state solution; and Trump is already working on the same agenda for denying any possibility of two-state solution for Palestinian population.

Therefore, the political leadership of Palestinians both from Gaza and the West Bank has rejected Trump’s proposal of resettlement of the Gaza population to Jordan and Egypt. Overwhelmingly, the Palestinian population of Gaza states that they will never leave their homeland and continue their political struggle for a sovereign state of Palestinians.

Interestingly, both Jordan and Egypt have rejected Trump’s proposal for resettlement of the Palestinian population into their countries. Both countries know fully that allowing the Palestinian population into their respective countries will cause internal disturbance in terms of politics, economy and society. Furthermore, given the popular support of Arab streets to the Palestinian cause, implementing such a horrible scheme will question their legitimacy before the general public. However, given the unpredictable and belligerent nature of Trump, and the economic and security dependency of Jordan and Egypt on the USA for their survival, it is quite difficult for them to reject Trump’s proposal for the Gaza Strip. President Trump has already stated that he will go to great lengths to exert pressure on Jordan and Egypt to implementation of his plan which means that economic and military assistance will be taken out if Jordan and Egypt do not agree to the resettlement plan.

However, both countries have looked to other Arab countries, especially KSA, UAE and Qatar, and gathered support from the Arab League for resisting the USA-Israel agenda for the Gaza Strip. Interestingly, under the leadership of Crown Prince MBS, KSA has already rejected Trump’s plan and stated clearly that without the sovereign state of Palestine, there is no question of recognition of the state of Israel in any circumstances. It means that Trump’s plan of Abraham Accord 2.0 will not go smoothly as Trump hopes that during his second administration, he will take on KSA for normalization with Israel in exchange for military assistance, economic aid and a nuclear deal. However, chains of events afterwards of 7th October 2023, in which around 48,000 Palestinians were killed and ignorance of Israel towards international law, UNO, and ruling from IJC and ICC have changed the entire equation and question of Abraham Accord 2.0.

Furthermore, KSA faces no imminent threat from Iran as the latter country faces a tremendous loss in regional dominance during 16 months of the Israel-Hamas war. Iranian proxies of Hamas and Hezbollah are at their lowest ebb while the chessboard of the Syrian regime of Assad has gone dead, resulting in the entire axis of resistance backed by Iran and symbol of Iranian power and dominance of the Middle East virtually dead. Beyond the loss of regional dominance, Iran has also faced internal turmoil as both the USA and Israel have an interest in bringing regime change in Tehran and attacking the nuclear and oil facilities of Iran for further fragmentation of regime power. In that weakened position of Tehran, KSA faces no strict obligation to agree with Trump’s plan for the Gaza Strip and re-discussion of Abraham Accord 2.0.

Additionally, Trump’s plan faces universal resistance from every corner of the world. Even American allies from Europe have rejected the heinous plan of Trump. Many African and Latin American countries state that Trump’s proposal is equivalent to modern-day imperialism as Israel is an occupying force which operates in the principle of apartheid and genocide. Many Asian countries also resonated with similar views and beliefs on the imperialist plan of Trump. This means that the only viable solution is the creation of a sovereign state of Palestine and accountability of Israel for its war crimes and crimes against humanity which it has perpetrated since 1948.

Similarly, the unconditional support of the USA to Israel is the only reason for emboldening the latter country to carry out a genocidal campaign against Palestinians and jingoism in the Middle East. And with the arrival of Trump, it is foolish to believe that the USA will revisit its supportive policy towards the state of Israel. In such a gloomy scenario, the Palestinian Cause must be kept alive through every available means so that resistance and striving for a sovereign state of Palestinians will remain there.
