Barrister Gohar Khan, the Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), conveyed concerns from party founder Imran Khan regarding the deteriorating relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan, criticizing the current government’s foreign policy. Gohar, who was elected as PTI chairman in highly contested intra-party polls twice, expressed regret over the escalating tensions along Pakistan’s northwestern borders.

Recent Pakistani military operations inside Afghanistan’s border regions targeted terrorists allegedly responsible for attacks launched from Afghan soil, including the March 16 attack in Mir Ali, North Waziristan, which claimed numerous civilian and law enforcement lives. The Foreign Office (FO) reiterated Pakistan’s concerns to the interim Afghan government over the presence of terror groups like TTP within Afghan territory, emphasizing their threat to Pakistan’s security.

Gohar, also a newly elected National Assembly lawmaker, reaffirmed his confidence in Pakistan’s armed forces, asserting their capability to safeguard the nation. Regarding PTI’s letter to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), he clarified that it aimed to remind the IMF of Pakistan’s situation. He further clarified that the protests outside the IMF headquarters in Washington, D.C., were organized by overseas Pakistanis and not by the party from within Pakistan.
