Dr. Ali is a Teaching Associate and Educational designer in the School Film, Media, and Journalism at Monash University, Australia. Before this, she completed a Ph.D. from Monash’s School of Social Science and worked as a research fellow at Banaras Hindu University, India. Her thesis examined the media framing of the experiences of Dalit (ex-untouchables) in India. It seeks to understand how representations of Dalit are constructed by socially dominant political and cultural groups, and addresses the relation between caste, gender, class, and identity in society. Ali also has interests in images of violence, culture, discrimination, minorities, media representations, women, Indian art, and art aesthetics.
