Ahead of crossing paths with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the UNGA on Friday evening, Pakistan PM Imran Khan has said in an interview he is not too “optimistic” about accomplishing anything with his speech at the UN where he will touch upon the Kashmir bogey.

In a meeting with editors of The New York Times, PM Imran who is in US to attend the 74th session of the United Nations General Assembly alongside PM Modi, said, “But at least the world will be aware because I fear an impending genocide.”

According to Geo News, Imran Khan sounded hopeless with his attempts to bring the United Nations to act on India’s move on Kashmir.

According to the report, Imran Khan added that he was not optimistic that he would accomplish anything in his speech to the United Nations, at least not in the near term.

“I have come to New York especially for Kashmir. Everything else is secondary. The world doesn’t realise that we are heading for a big disaster,” PM Imran added.

Earlier, after attending a session of the ongoing UN General Assembly, Imran Khan had told reporters that he is disappointed with the international community over the kind of lukewarm response he has been receiving from all quarters. “I am disappointed by the international community. If eight million Europeans, or Christians or Jews or Americans were put under siege well even if eight Americans had been put under siege you can imagine the reaction,” said Imran Khan.

He also said, “There is no pressure on Narendra Modi to lift the siege.”

In the latest interview, Imran Khan has however once again said that he would keep appealing to the United Nations to seek intervention in the Kashmir matter.

With Pakistan knocking on the doors of a number of countries and the UN on several occasions, India has maintained that abrogation of Article 370 and bifurcation of Jammu and Kashmir are internal matter for India.

Imran Khan has said he will again urge the United Nations to step in and added that it is too risky to allow tensions to escalate between India and Pakistan, both of which have nuclear weapons.

“This is the UN’s job,” Imran Khan said, adding, “They have to intervene, send observers there.”

Meanwhile, PM Modi and Imran Khan will be crossing paths and be in the presence of each other at the UNGA on Friday evening.
